Title: Good Friday
Scripture: Matthew 27:27-32
The suffering of Christ moves from the darkness of the garden to the morning light and public humiliation of Jesus. The brief statement of in Matthew’s gospel – “and they led Him away to crucify Him” is why we meet on Good Friday. It is to remind ourselves that every day we too are to be led away to crucifixion – not by a bloodthirsty mob but by a willingness of spirit to die again to self so that we may be raised to new life.
The constant pattern of crucifixion to resurrection is yet another way to keep our eyes open to the intention of our redemption in Jesus. An un-crucified life can never be raised to newness it can only remain in its original un-crucified state. The death of Christ not only wins our redemption but demonstrates the path to the daily practice of service and thanksgiving.
